Ezra is ruled by the ghosts of his past—and needled by the guilt they create. Not only does he have to manage his own guilt—his friends are forced to bear the weight as well. He lives in limbo, never dreaming of anything that lies beyond the grave.
He wishes for something beyond himself.
He hopes for her.

Hide and seek is Aysa’s game. She begs for small spaces and empty places. But, she secretly desires so much more. She's caught between wanting to hide and needing to break free.
When they find each other, a hope for something new is sprung.
She can't hide from him.
And he comes alive when he's with her.

Wow..... just.... wow.

I am wavering on how many stars...

4 Freeing Stars

I can't decide between 3, 3.5, or 4, so lets just go with 4.

First of all, I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this. The blurb, for me, wasn't very informative, but I thought... what the heck, lets do this.

In the beginning I knew I was going to hate this book. The characters and the whole atmosphere of the story was just.... depressing, and slow, and depressing. However, once the story really got started I was hooked.

I wavered in my ratings because of the beginning and the ending. The majority of the book was great.

Sparrows for Free is the story of Ezra and Aysa. They both have lived through some tragic events in their pasts and are just basically stuck. Ezra is stuck with the guilt and obsessed with what happened, so much so that he has stopped living any sort of life. He is surrounded by equally depressing friends who enable his never ending pity party.

Aysa is a girl who has been beaten down by everyone, especially the people who are supposed to love her the most mainly being her family. Everyone treats this girl like dirt, and she just takes it. She over analyzes everything people say and do to just continue making herself feel bad for her station in life. She has no friends. Her parents are mean. Her life sucks. However, instead of growing a pair, she hides. Her coping mechanism is hiding. I really wanted to grab her by the arms and shake her and tell her to grow a pair, but at the same time my heart was breaking for her.

Ezra and Aysa are both broken when they find each other. Yet somehow together, instead of being more broken together, they are good for each other. Together light is entering the darkness, laughter is found, and life begins to happen. They each begin a journey to find out who they really are, and what it is they really want out of life.

This turned out to be a beautiful story of overcoming loss and tragedy and learning to live again. I really enjoyed the story.... until the end.

That ending!!! I really wanted to shout at Lila Felix and ask her "why why why" in my most distraught and tearful voice. I mean really... why? I should have paid closer attention to reviews and realized that this was a cliffhanger. But not any cliffhanger....but the mother of all cliffhangers

The story is really good, the flow is amazing and BAM the story ends... just ends... and there is no release date for the next book!!!

If you don't mind a cliffhanger then read this book. It really is a captivating story. If you don't like cliffhangers, wait for the next book!

Sparrows For Free eBook Lila Felix Reviews

This is a beautifully written book that really showcases how much Lila has grown into her writing. Even though I've been a long-time fan, and have loved everything she has written, there is just a depth of these characters that I cannot explain.

Lila has always had a flare for character development, always. You become close to her characters; their stories become yours. You know them, and you can usually even relate to them on some level.

In Sparrows for Free you fall in love, get your heart broken, and then ride a roller coaster right off a cliff as you wait for what will happen next.

How do you get your heart broken? You meet Aysa and Ezra. Two people you want to hug and do all you can to help them repair their wounded souls.

What I like about this book The story doesn't take place in a land far away. There is no fairy tale romance. This is just a story of broken people, going through the world trying to make sense of their lives and figure out what it means to actually live.

You know how I love it when an author makes me feel emotions, and emotions were definitely felt. I was surprised, sad, happy, angry and a list of other Dwarves. Most importantly, to me, I felt like I was having a conversation with a good friend. By the time I reached the end, I felt like Aysa and I had sat down with a cup of coffee and she had just filled me in on the last few months of her life. I love it when I can say that about a book.

What I didn't like about this book I didn't like being left wanting more, but one really can't complain about that - it is what I don't like about most books.

Would I recommend this book Definitely.
Five Line Book Review (www. fivelinebookreview .blogspot .com)
I had read Lila Felix’s Love and Skate book a few months ago, and while the story line was really good and I did like the characters, the whole book felt a little stiff and needed quite a bit of editing; my lesson from this is never judge an author by their first book, and honestly I never would have pegged myself for doing something like that but I know that is exactly what I was doing every time I scrolled past Sparrows for Free on my kindle and bumping it down the line of my TBR pile; thankfully a friend talked some sense into me and told me I would really like this book, and she was right! The story of two messed up people and the road being paved for them to their recovery was beautifully written and the characters were people I wanted to get to know. Asya, was a character I could realate to in some ways; not necessairily in the hiding from life - but growing up there were moments when I felt like despite talking people looked right past me. I loved her gradual increase of self esteem and standing up for herself; she didn’t wake up one day and decide to be different – it was a process. If nothing else, Sparrows for Free will trap you into a story that you absolutely have to finished, if for nothing else than to see Asya and Ezra find themselves and begin to move past who they are and into who they should be.

Rated PG-13 - Mild cussing
Genre New Adult - Romance
